73 years ago Japan bombed a fair part of what is now the Papuan province of East New Britain. Today (15/9/2018) a small delegation of Japanese bishops and politicians is coming over for a visit in order to apologize for the damage that had been done. This event marks a very important day for the people of East New Britain, as this happens for the first time. During the Event, the Japanese representatives pay shell money as their ‚Varporong’ and say sorry to the church, government, and people of East New Britain. The day before the reconciliation, the Japanese delegation was told to buy some Tabu (shell money), they had no clue what this Shell money thing is all about. The price for the compensation was the following: 3 small Agogo à 50 Param each (300 Kina), 1 medium size Agogo à 100 Param (500 Kina), 1 large Agogo à 1’000 Param (2500 Kina) = Total 3000 Kina Compensation
Furthermore, from the big warriors of Japan (the Samurai) to the big warriors of PNG, the Japanese will signify the act of surrender with a Japanese sword.
